School Results 2017/18

The Avon Valley School is delighted to report an excellent set of examination results for the class of 2017-2018. With the hard work of students and teachers, and the support of parents and carers, 62% of students achieved a grade 4+ (standard pass) in both Maths and English and 42% achieved a grade 5+ (good pass) in both Maths and English.

Attainment in both Maths and English was particularly strong with both subjects with both subjects achieving 70% at grade 4+ and over 50% at grade 5+.

Analysis of the data shows that many faculty areas achieved strong results, representing the Arts, Modern Foreign Language, Social Studies, Technology and ICT, and of course the core subjects. These results reflect the ability of the school to unlock the potential of all our students, allowing them to reach their personal goals and provide a springboard for the next stage in their life. They also remind the school community that achievement is at the core to our success at The Avon Valley School.

Notable exam success:

Theodora: Maths (grade 9), French (grade 9), Biology (grade 9), Chemistry (grade 9), Physics (grade 9), English Language (grade 8), Art (grade 8), Statistics (grade A*), Psychology (grade A*), English Literature (grade 6).

Emily: Biology (grade 9), Maths (grade 8), Chemistry (grade 8), Physics (grade 8), English Language (grade 7), History (grade 7), Business (L2D*), English Literature (grade 6), Performing Arts dance (L2M).

Daniel: Maths (grade 8), Biology (grade 8), Chemistry (grade 8), Physics (grade 8), French (grade 7), Polish (grade A*), Business (L2D*), English Language (grade 6), English Literature (grade 6), Health and Social Care (L2D).

The school is incredibly proud of this year group and what it has achieved. The vast majority of students will now continue with their education at college or sixth form, while others will go into modern apprenticeships; all should be filled with self-confidence from their successes this summer.

Ofsted

Ofsted inspect schools to provide information to parents, to promote improvement and to hold schools to account for the public money they receive. School inspections are required by law. Ofsted provide an independent assessment of the quality and standards of education in schools, and check whether pupils are achieving as much as they can.

Inspectors will make graded judgements on the following areas using the four-point scale:

  • Effectiveness of leadership and management
  • Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
  • Personal development, behaviour and welfare

Outcomes for pupils.

Upon completing their inspection Ofsted give schools an overall grade from 1 to 4: grade 1 (outstanding), grade 2 (good), grade 3 (requires improvement), grade 4 (inadequate). A written report is also produced. Reports relating to The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College can be downloaded from this page.
