Homework

Homework is an important element of your child’s education, as it consolidates learning and provides opportunity for research and independent study. At The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College homework completion is monitored at various levels throughout the school with rewards, and sanctions, issued as appropriate.

Year 7 and Year 8

Your child will receive weekly homework for the core subjects of English, Maths and Science. In the non-core subjects, your child will receive regular fortnightly homework projects, as detailed on the homework schedule, which is available for download on this page. In addition your child may also receive shorter homework activities which relate to topics being studied in class.

All homework projects will be explained to your child in class and booklets, or sheets, will be issued where applicable. All information and resources relating to the projects will also be uploaded on the ‘Doddle’ website, on which can be accessed by students and parents.

Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11

Students in Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11, who are studying towards their GCSEs will receive weekly homework for the core subjects of English, Maths and Science. In addition they will receive regular homework from their GCSE option subjects. Information and resources relating to homework will be uploaded on the ‘Doddle' website, on which can be accessed by students and parents.

Doddle

As a school we have invested in a piece of online software called ‘Doddle' which is used to set, record and monitor all homework activities. Every student has a Doddle account from which they can see the homework activities set, along with task instructions and the deadline date. Unique login details are provided at the beginning of the year. If you have not recieved your details please contact us.

Homework Support

Each faculty will inform students of the support available during the fortnight of their homework project. The school’s library is a quiet place for students to work and access computers and learning resources, this facility is available to students at break and lunch. In addition a staffed Homework Club takes place in the library Monday-Thursday until 4pm.
