Teacher to Raise Funds for Alzheimer's Society Mrs Bearpark to complete 5.5km Memory Walk

A maths teacher from The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College will be completing the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk in memory of her dad who was affected by the disease.

On Saturday 29th September, maths teacher, Alison Bearpark will lace up her trainers and join other walkers in Leamington Spa’s Victoria Park when she completes the 5.5km charity event. Alison is currently just over half way to her £400 fundraising target.

Alison Bearpark, said “My Dad suffered with this disease for over 5 years. It gradually took away his ability to live independently and left him relying on my mum for complete care leading to him eventually spending time in a nursing home. Due to the disease affecting his nerves he lost the ability to walk, move his limbs and finally took away his speech. Walking was one of his favourite past times, which he always enjoyed doing, this is what inspired me to complete the Memory Walk.

Headteacher, Alison Davies, said “Many of our students and staff complete charity and fundraising events either through the school or of their own initiative if they have a charity close to their heart. Caring and showing respect for others is a big part of our ethos and it is always lovely to see members of our school community buying into this by supporting good causes. Mrs Bearpark is a much loved colleague and I wish her all the best for the Memory Walk.”
