Ellie to lace up trainers and raise funds during local ‘Race for Life’ event

In June, a Year 7 student from The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College will be joining other local runners when she completes Cancer Research’s Rugby 5K 2018 ‘Race for Life’ event.

For the second year running, Garrick House’s, Ellie Taylor will run the race as part of an eight strong family team who are completing the race and raising funds to support Cancer Research UK’s vital work.

The Cancer Research UK website says that every two minutes someone in the United Kingdom is diagnosed with cancer. Support through events like Race for Life is what helps the charity continue their ground-breaking work and sees more people surviving cancer. Cancer Research UK are world leaders in finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. The charity fund scientists, doctors and nurses to help beat cancer sooner, they also provide cancer information to the public.

Alison Davies, Headteacher, said, “Throughout the year we support a number of charities as a school either by promoting a charity’s work or by raising funds. It is always nice to hear about a student who is raising money for a charity in their own time and I wish Ellie and the members of her team all the best when they run the ‘Race for Life’ for Cancer Research next month.”
