Village drama group the Bilton Pantomummers to be on stage with adaptation of ‘Beauty and the Beast’

A local drama group will soon bring their latest production, directed by a teacher from The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College, to a local stage.

The adapted production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is set to be Bilton Pantomummers’ biggest production to date when they take to the stage next month. The production will mark a new chapter in their history as the show will performed at Rugby High School, which is the group’s largest venue to date.

The show has been written, and is to be directed, by Jonathan Patton, a maths teacher from The Avon Valley School, who has been a member of the Bilton Pantomummers for the last 13 years. The production also features Avon Valley School’s Evelyn Newman, a Year 7 student, who will be in the ensemble and Year 9 student Marianne Butt who will be working behind the scenes on the show’s lighting and sound.

The popular amateur pantomime group’s show ‘Beauty and the Beast’, follows the story of a girl who finds herself in the captivity of a beast but soon realises that he isn't as scary as he seems. Adapted from the classic Disney movie, this original script is set locally in Bilton and contains many local references and jokes. The pantomime, which is on stage Friday 2nd– Sunday 4th March, will feature typical panto gags and slapstick comedy that should leave audiences laughing, booing, and maybe even singing along.

Alison Davies, Headteacher, said, “The performing arts are an important part of the fabric of our school and it is wonderful to see students and staff pursuing this interest outside of school.”
Show dates, and times, are: Friday 2nd March at 7.30pm, Saturday 3rd March at 3pm (This performance will be signed by a BSL interpreter), Saturday 3rd March at 7.30pm and the final production will be Sunday 4th March at 3pm.

Tickets are priced at £7.50 for adults and £5 for children and can be purchased from Dudley Taylor Pharmacy and Bilton Post Office, both on Main Street, and Woodlands Premier on Cymbeline Way.
